AWS rises from the flames with robust ambitions

AWS Eco Plastics, the Wallsend-based recycling firm, says that its fire-damaged plant will be back at full capacity within months.
The facility, near Caenby Corner on the A631in Lincolnshire, was hit by two fires in quick succession. The first, which started on 25 August, damaged adjacent businesses.
AWS was forced to lay off 40 staff and the storage unit where the blaze began was demolished but there is good news for the UK’s largest plastic bottle recycler; the company is close to raising £10m that will be used for an expansion at the site. The aim is expand the 100,000 sq ft plant up to 140,000 sq ft.
According to a report on the North East Business website, managing director Jonathan Short says that AWS is likely to notch up revenue of £35m, its highest annual total to date.
