| Mechanical Recycling |
Process consisting in the decontamination, shredding and washing of recovered bottles in order to turn them into flakes that will be melt and turned into a new product. |
| Metallized Label |
Label containing traces of metal. |
| Methanolysis |
Recycling process where methanol is introduced into PET. The polyester is broken down into its basic molecules, including dimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol. These precursors are then re-polymerized into purified raw resin. |
| Monolayer Bottle |
Bottle consisting of a unique layer of PET. Its main downside is that it only ensures a relatively short shelf-life for CSDs and beer. |
| Monomer |
Compound that can react to form a polymer. |
| Multi-layer Barrier |
Technology developed to avoid gas exchanges between the interior and the exterior of the container. In order to decrease permeability, the walls of the container are made of many layers including some airtight ones. |
| Municipal Solid Waste |
Garbage generated from residential, commercial, institutional and industrial sources that falls into six basic categories: durable goods, non-durable goods, containers and packaging, food wastes, yard trimmings and miscellaneous organic and inorganic wastes. |
